General Reception/Clinic Impressions:
Our volunteers described this health center as feeling very much like a standard community clinic - clean but sterile with friendly if somewhat standoffish staff who had to be approached before greeting newcomers to the reception area. Had to be buzzed in to get in and out, which was not marked outside. Essentially this clinic felt functional but not extraordinary. Waits described by patients were very long (sometimes "all day") and in the time that our volunteers were at this site, not a single person waiting was called up for their appointment.
Parental consent for minors:
No for STD testing. Parental consent is required for pediatric care.
This site has a general non-discrimination policy which includes sexual (but NOT gender) identity.
Survey with waiting patients:
This patient had been coming to this clinic for ten years since becoming pregnant with her son. She described the waits to be seen as averaging two hours but sometimes taking all day. She would come here again because she lives two block away, though she does not feel that she gets high quality medical care at this site. The staff were described as being always friendly though sometimes they "don't know what they're doing." She described the medical services as being hit-or-miss, that at times they are thorough and good experiences but at other times staff simply says "here, take this pill." She had been advised to consider nutritional counseling but had never received any other information about alternative treatment options. She has had more than a handful of bad experiences there, but also some good ones.
On a scale from 1-10, the patient rated the clinic as the following:
a) speed of service - 1
b) easy access - 9
c) respectfulness - 7
d) comfort - 5
e) quality of care - 6
f) cost/ease of payment method - 10
g) openness to alternative medicine - 2
h) understanding of people from my background - 8 (most staff are of color)
